Road
City buses & coaches
Urban and intercity coaches carry standing loads, luggage and mixed-ability passengers. In rollover, collision or cabin fire, side emergency windows and roof hatches are often the fastest secondary exits — but only if the break-glass device is still there. Theft and vandalism of hammers remain a known fleet maintenance problem worldwide.
How Safe-T-PunchTM Helps
A fixed, high-visibility on-glass emergency exit device at each designated toughened window removes the “missing hammer” failure mode. Striking at 3 Joules fractures the glass without batteries or crew intervention — aligning with the emergency-window principles addressed by UNECE Regulation No. 107.
Aviation ground
Airport apron buses
Airport apron buses operate in a security-sensitive airside environment while carrying passengers between terminals and aircraft. They need reliable emergency escape without introducing unnecessary portable objects into the sterile side of the airport. Conventional hammers still perform an evacuation function — but because they are removable, they may be stolen, misplaced, vandalised or carried away from the vehicle. That creates two risks at once: the hammer may be missing in an emergency, and it may migrate into the terminal, an aircraft cabin or another restricted area.
How Safe-T-PunchTM Helps
Safe-T-PunchTM provides a fixed, visible, mechanical on-glass emergency exit device on the emergency window itself. It remains where it is required, cannot be casually removed or transferred, and does not rely on batteries, electrical power or software — so airport operators can strengthen passenger safety and airside security without choosing between the two.
- Preserves the emergency window-breaking function
- Removes dependence on loose emergency hammers
- Reduces equipment migrating through the sterile-side journey
- Improves visibility and availability in panic, smoke or restricted movement
- Supports consistent fleet inspection, preparedness and accountability
Designed for R43 toughened safety glass and aligned with the emergency-window principles of UNECE Regulation No. 107 Rev. 10.
Rail
Passenger & commuter rail
Trains, trams and LRT’s often use toughened side glazing that cannot be opened in service. Tunnel incidents, smoke, derailment or door failure leave windows as critical escape paths. Loose hammers in vestibules or under seats are frequently absent during audits, and passengers rarely know where they were stored.
How Safe-T-PunchTM Helps
Safe-T-PunchTM supports Functional Safety by providing an independent means of emergency escape when safety-critical systems, such as powered doors, door controls, vehicle electrics, or primary exits, are unavailable due to failure, damage, or loss of power, as contained in ISO 26262.
Education & BRT
School transport & BRT
School buses and BRT vehicles serve vulnerable and first-time users. History has shown — including South Africa’s Westdene tragedy — how sealed windows can trap occupants when water or impact blocks doors. Children and carers need an obvious, simple action, not a hunt for a device.
How Safe-T-PunchTM Helps
A permanently present red device with pictogram instructions turns emergency glass into a usable exit for people who will never have practiced the drill. No reliance on the driver locating a hammer under the seat while managing an evacuation.
